The most common and widely consumed truffle.The summer truffle, the "Tuber Aestivum Vitt" is big and looks very similar to the black truffle. The outer surface is presented with pyramidal warts and is brown of color. It has a strong aromatic smell, but when split it can be distinguished from the black truffle, because the glebe does not become dark, and tends to stay a dark yellow. The truffle grows in both sandy and clay areas, mainly in deciduous forests, pine forests and even in the old olive groves. It 's the most common truffle growing and especially Abruzzo, Italy.
Due to its easy adaptability to different kinds of habitat and plants in the area it is lower in cost compared to other rarer truffles.The truffle is widely used in the kitchen and is perfect for the production of sausages and sauces, creams and oils.There is also a variant of this type, specifically of the winter truffle, known as the Hamate, "Tuber Uncinatum", that grows at a higher altitude and prefers the symbiosis with beech and oak trees.
The harvest period in Abruzzo is 15th May to 31st August and from October 1st to December 31st.
